Modern Farmhouse

Project Description

Type of Project:   Interior & Exterior Remodel
Architect: Chambers & Chambers Architects
Location:  Kentfield, CA

This family purchased this home with the intention to remodel it to fit their needs.

The Challenges

These clients wanted to develop this existing house into a place where they could raise their three children. They also wanted to brighten up the long and narrow home to create a space to entertain. Using wall paneling, light marble, white cabinets and tile, in addition to the warm hardwood floors, we helped them turn an outdated and dark house into a bright and well-lit home that they can enjoy for years to come.

Midcentury Modern

Project Description

Type of Project:   Interior & Exterior Remodel
Architect: Steve Lochte of Lochte + Architectural Group
Location:  Mill Valley, CA

These empty-nesters wanted to stay in their current home, but also needed the space to be functional as they get older.

The Challenges

One of the home’s biggest challenges was a large set of stairs in the entryway of the two-story residence. These clients had a hard time finding an architect that would take on their project and re-design the staircase to be more modern and open. However, once Steve Lochte was brought on as the architect, we worked with him to create a space that fit our clients’ needs. We brought the interior down to the studs and built it back up into a midcentury modern home that the owners will be able to enjoy for many years to come. Some of the interior work involved adding new hardwood floors in the lower floor, and matching walnut beams and cabinetry throughout.

We remodeled the laundry/mudroom, powder room and master suite of a nearly 6000 sq. ft. home in Kentfield for a family with two young children.

The Challenges

This project included intricate marble tiles in the master bathroom and marble countertops on the custom vanities. We also remodeled the master closets to give her a bright and feminine space while giving him a more masculine area with darker cabinets. The laundry area was redesigned to make the room more functional, which included adding custom cabinets and a bench/shoe storage area. In addition to the interior remodel, we had to retrofit a cantilevered waterproof deck to add a balcony off of the master suite.

Wine Country Estate

Project Description

Type of Project:   Whole House Interior Remodel
Architect:  John Swain
Designer:   Tish Key [website]
Location:   St. Helena

This 7200 SF estate is tucked away in the beautiful St. Helena wine country.  This was the 3rd project for our clients.  Some of the key features are imported French limestone flooring, and French oak flooring from Exquisite Surfaces.

The Challenges

Coordination and balancing lead times was our focus.  Since many materials were brought in from France on container ships,  everything had to be coordinated in a very precise manner.  We had custom steel barn doors and windows made and supplemented those pieces with steel windows and an entry door from Architectural Iron Works.  All the existing exposed beams were painted a dark black and had to be sand blasted to strip the wood for a natural finish.  Smooth finish plaster walls cover the interior of the entire home resulting in about 2 months of on site plaster work.  This project was a true group effort involving almost every sub contractor we had available.  Tish Key Interior Design and John Swain along with our clients excellent taste brought this project to life

Type of Project:   Whole House Interior Remodel
Architect:  John Swain
Designer:   Paulina Perrault [website]
Location:   Mill Valley, CA

This was a complete interior remodel of a 6000 SF home.  Kitchen, master suite, 3.5 bathrooms, hardwood throughout, cabinets, casework and painting throughout.

The Challenges

The cabinets and casework were the the signature pieces for this highly detailed project.  We pulled out all the stops  to complete the cabinet design to the designers specifications.  The media room was clad in custom walnut paneling installed by our talented finish carpenters.  Every piece of tile, trim, stone was was carefully selected and placed by the designer.  We were able to retrofit the entire home with new LED lighting, revamp the media room, and sneak in a hidden chess/wine room.

Modern Rustic

Project Description

Type of Project:   Whole House Interior Remodel
Architect:  Wagstaff Rogers Architects [website]
Designer:   Jen Tippett
Location:   Larkspur, CA

This project was a full interior remodel of a vintage 90’s single level ranch style home.  The owner acted as the interior designer making the whole project a lot of fun.  Although the entire house was remodeled in every room, this family was able to live in the home through the entire process.

The Challenges

Our biggest challenge was sectioning off and protecting the house while keeping areas livable during construction.  We also had to vault the interior ceilings within the existing roof structure to create room volume.  Decorative reclaimed beams from Restoration Timber line the ceiling spaces with paneling set in between.  We were able to mainain the eixsting wood burning fireplace and give it a modern facelift with stone.  The master suite was enlarged with a gable end retrofitted with a steel beam to protect that end of the house from the massive trees that surround the grounds.

Historic Remodel

Project Description

Type of Project:   Whole House Remodel
Architect:  Ken Linsteadt [website]
Designer:   Carol Knorpp
Location:   Larkspur, CA

This historic victorian classic is one of the oldest homes in Larkspur. The interior walls are paneled in wood, with reclaimed white oak flooring, white marble and modern finishes throughout. The home has since been used for many photo shoots for Pottery Barn, William Sonoma and more.

The Challenges

There were 3 main challenges with this project.  We had to maintain a certain amount of the existing structure and windows for historical reasons.  The house needed to be stablized and supported while we dug out a 9′ tall bottom floor were there had been unconditioned space previously.  The attic space had to be transformed into a master suite where paneling covers every surface.  A new modern pool was added with classic landscaping and a detached garage.  Our clients also needed the project to be ready for move in within 10 months of breaking ground.
